Strawberry Pineapple Buttermilk Smoothie

Welcome to the new home for Patty’s Food!  Moving my site from Blogger to WordPress has been quite a process but thanks to Shay  of  shaybocks.com who specializes in custom blog design I’ve been able to realize my dream.  I hope you like the new look -complete with a recipe index!  I also added a new print the recipe feature which I think will make copying recipes easier.  Please feel free to check out my new site and I hope you find a few new recipes to take home with you.  This past weekend weather in the bay area was scorching hot, so in between watching  grandchildren in the pool, trying to keep up with the US Open, celebrating  Father’s day and updating Patty’s Food, I made a few cooling fruit smoothies.  In honor of my new  home I’m sharing a simple recipe for a smoothie that is very refreshing in hot Summer weather.  A few cups of strawberries, chunks of pineapple, and slices of banana  all go into this slightly sweet creamy blended drink, as well as a touch of honey to balance out it’s tangy buttermilk base.  Back in the day buttermilk was a popular drink, I remember seeing my grandfather drinking buttermilk.  You just don’t see it on menus in restaurants or served in homes anymore but I think we should bring it back because it tastes good blended with fruit and is even good for us!  There are theories out there that buttermilk is good for the digestion and even can help you lose weight.  Regardless of the theories, buttermilk puréed with fruit and a small amount of honey makes a delicious Summertime drink.
